What is the COJG?

The Canada-Ontario Job Grant offers financial support for employers and businesses in Ontario to train new and existing employees within a one-year timeframe. The funding helps supplement the cost of skill upgrading and training to increase the job advancement potential of the company’s workforce.

Overall, the COJG is a joint initiative, meaning both the employer and the government contribute to towards the training.

What support is available?

In most cases, there is a maximum of $10,000 funding per employee, and the funding can be applied to training for new and existing employees.

Large companies with 100 employees or more are required to contribute to half of the training cost.

Small companies with less than 100 employees are expected to contribute one-sixth the cost of training. The benefit goes even further if the training will support the hire of a new employee. In this case, small companies may be eligible for $15,000 per trainee and may not be required to contribute the obligatory training cost.

Are all companies eligible?

There are limitations based on organization type and location. To qualify for the COJG, your company must be licensed to operate within Ontario, as well as several other qualifying factors.

The training must prepare an employee for a job based in Ontario, and the training must be held within Ontario. There are also specific trainee requirements regarding Canadian citizenship, offers of employment, and other factors.
